Update on Cornubia
A weekly health walk leaves from Cornubia every Monday except Bank Holidays from Cornubia. Walks last about an hour and all are welcome.
Slimming World has also started a weekly session on Saturday mornings at 8.30am
Thanks to support from Ocean Housing, Liverty and Department of Work and Pensions we were able to open the front part of the building in February to start a Job Club and to welcome our first tenants: Purl-A-Row, Cultivate Cornwall and Tex with a Difference.
Job Club: Free advice and guidance for those who are seeking employment, every Monday morning (10am-Midday). Use computers free of charge to prepare and update CV’s, research job vacancies and write job applications. Advice available on interview skills; searching on-line for job vacancies; writing applications; and promoting yourself. The Job Club is funded by Par Bay Big Local and run by volunteers, with the support of REED in Partnership who can help people to access ‘Work Routes’ – a funded programme offering unemployed people:
- tailored training to increase confidence and enhance skills.
- access to exclusive vacancies and voluntary placements.
- financial help with travel costs to attend interviews or training.
- Financial help to purchase uniforms, or any PPE needed to start a new job.
Building Work Continues: We are currently having the ground floor hall stripped and varnished before resuming decoration works to have it open by 1st May. Water ingress upstairs means that further work is needed before this level can be opened. We need volunteers to help redecorate on:
- Monday 26th March
- Tuesday 27th March
- All dates between Monday 16th April and Thursday 19th April
- All dates between Monday 23rd April and Thursday 26th April
We will be open 9.30am to 3.30pm on these dates, so if you would like to give us a hand, even for part of a day, that would be great. You must be reasonably fit and agile as the work will be repetitive and likely to involve some stretching, lifting and carrying. You must be over 16 years old and wear old clothes suitable for decorating. Tea and biscuits will be provided, but please bring your own lunch if wanted.
To Follow: A programme of events and activities will be pulled together over the coming months to suit people of all ages and abilities (watch this space). If meanwhile you are interested in hiring a space at Cornubia, please call Carolyn 07480 135818 or 01726 814184 or email email@example.com We would be happy to show you around.
